This project is phase I of a four-phase stormwater mediation plan designed to alleviate flooding and improve water quality along the Hudson Branch. The Off-Line Wetlands project will create an area behind the multi-purpose building that will allow stormwater during rain events to flow out of the branch and disperse through the plant-life, soil and evaporation before the excess flows back into the branch. This action will help prevent stormwater from building up and causing flooding and will improve water quality by provide natural filtration of nutrients and undesirable components before it reaches the coastal bays.
The offline wetlands project is complete. While it doesn’t look like much right now, warmer weather in the spring will bring the growth of vegetation, particularly grasses.
