At their meeting on Monday, April 10th, Berlin’s Mayor and Council passed proclamation 2017-07 designating the week of April 22-29, 2017 as the 4th Annual Take Pride in Berlin Week. There are two new activities added to this year’s event: a photo contest and Take Pride in Berlin Week business specials.
From April 22nd to April 29th, post a photo to the Take Pride in Berlin Week Facebook page or Instagram using the hashtag #betterinberlin. Only one photo per person and it must be taken in the Town of Berlin. Photos must show one of the following: Helping a neighbor, beautifying your neighborhood, picking up trash, cleaning up Main Street, planting flowers, wearing something that says BERLIN on it, or volunteering. Every photo will be entered to win a drawing for a basket filled with everything that makes it Better in Berlin!
New this year, many Berlin merchants and restaurants are showing their Berlin Pride by offering specials to anyone sporting the official, bright yellow, “I Have Berlin Pride” wristband. The wristbands will be given to everyone who registers at Stephen Decatur or Henry Park or Berlin Falls on Clean-Up Day on April 22nd (starting at 8:30 AM) and will be available throughout the week at Town Hall and the Welcome Center.
The week kicks off with the annual Clean-Up Day – a decades old tradition of community spring cleaning that centers around Stephen Decatur and Henry Parks. Throughout the week residents and business owners are encouraged to show their pride in being a part of the Berlin Community in any way that has meaning to them. This can include participating in Clean-Up Day, cleaning up around their own properties or anywhere they feel needs a polish, helping a neighbor, or even taking on a long-lasting project, such as a neighborhood compost station or herb garden.
