The Town of Berlin Contracts with CodeRED to Provide Emergency Notification Services

November 25, 2014 – The Town of Berlin now offers its residents and businesses a new way to stay informed about what’s going on in the Town with the implementation of the CodeRED Emergency Notification System.  “The Mayor and Council recognized the need to be able to communicate with our citizens quickly and efficiently,” Mayor Gee Williams explained.  “The use of a mass notification system that can deliver messages by phone, email or text all at once and to many people will help us keep our residents, businesses and even visitors informed.”

After requesting proposals from communications vendors throughout the country, the Town selected CodeRED following an extensive and thorough evaluation and review.  The CodeRED system is a high-speed emergency notification service provided by Ormond Beach, FL-based Emergency Communications Network.   Town staff has been working with CodeRED to train on system use in preparation for use.

Use of the notification system will allow the Town to inform its residents of incidents such as power outages, road closures and other items which may affect the entire Town or specific areas.   The Town has provided CodeRED with an initial database of residential and business telephone numbers and addresses, however all residents and business operators with Berlin are encouraged to visit the Town’s website at berlinmd.gov and click on the CodeRED logo to enroll additional contact information including cell phone numbers, text and email addresses, as well as to specify their contact method preferences.
