The Town of Berlin is working on a stormwater mitigation project to convert the empty lot between the Dispatch and Church of Christ into a wetland. This will help to increase the stormwater system capacity by collecting run-off from both Old Ocean City Blvd. and Graham Avenue. Additionally, as part of a wetlands, a vegetation buffer will be created that will “pretreat” the stormwater runoff before it enters the wetland and, ultimately, the natural water ways. The wetlands will be particularly helpful during significant storm events when the existing system capacity is overwhelmed with the volume of water running off of the roads and other impervious surfaces.
Grant funding has been committed to this project by the Chesapeake Bay Trust through the Maryland Coastal Bays Program.
