In May, 2018, Berlin was officially designated a Bee City. The Bee City USA program endorses a set of commitments, defined in a resolution, for creating sustainable habitats for pollinators, which are vital to feeding the planet. A Bee City designation’s purpose is to raise awareness of the role pollinators play in our communities, encourage healthy habitats, and celebrate achievements. Our committee is in place to provide a commitment to the pollinators by and creating and maintaining sustainable habitats. One in three bites of food we eat is courtesy of insect pollination and 90% of the world’s flowering plants depend on pollinators to reproduce.
