About Berlin Electric
The Electric Utility is separated into 2 divisions: Generation (Power Plant located on William Street) and Distribution (Line Crew located on Schoolfield Street). The Electric Department is subject to the regulatory jurisdiction of the Maryland Public Service Commission (MPSC). Rates for purchased power cost adjustments are revised and submitted to the MPSC which audits and holds formal hearings on those adjustments annually.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC COMMENT HEARING
The Maryland Public Service Commission will conduct a Public Comment Hearing in the above-captioned matter to obtain the views of members of the public regarding the Town of Berlin’s Application to establish smart meter opt-out charges and charges for electric vehicle public charging. The hearing will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, 6:15 p.m., at the Worcester County Library, Berlin Branch, 13 Harrison Avenue, Berlin, MD, 21811.
The hearing will also be livestreamed, for viewing purposes only, on the Town of Berlin’s Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/townofberlinmd. Public comments will not be addressed through Facebook or other social media platforms.
Written comments on the Application may be submitted electronically or by first-class mail through August 28, 2026. Instructions for submitting written and electronic written comments can be accessed by going to going to the Commission’s home page at https://psc.maryland.gov, scrolling down to the section titled “Comment on a Case” and clicking the link for “Learn More.”

On May 15, Berlin filed proposed rates with the Maryland Public Service Commission: (1) charges for opting out of the Town’s smart meter program and (2) charges for use of the Town’s EV charging station. A pre-hearing conference in the above-captioned matter is hereby set for Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The pre-hearing conference will be held virtually and barring technical difficulties, streamed live for viewing via the PULJ Division’s YouTube Channel. At the pre-hearing conference, any preliminary matters and the establishment of a procedural schedule will be discussed.
