Essential Functions: The Administrative Services Coordinator serves as the primary administrative support professional for the Berlin Police Department, providing advanced administrative, records management, budget, grant, and public service support. This position is responsible for processing and maintaining police records, coordinating criminal justice reporting, assisting with budget preparation and tracking, administering grants, supporting accreditation efforts, managing records retention requirements, and providing administrative support to the Chief of Police and command staff. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational and communication skills, maintain strict confidentiality, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and be proficient in modern office technology and records management systems. This position works a standard 40-hour workweek, with occasional evening, weekend, holiday, or overtime hours required to support departmental operations, meetings, training, and special events.
Education and Licensing: A high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required. An Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Office Administration, or a related field is preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of higher education requirements. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. Must successfully complete and maintain a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) certification, including MILES/NCIC access, within six (6) months of employment. Maryland Notary Public certification is preferred or may be obtained at the Town’s expense.
Experience: Knowledge of modern office practices, records management principles, business communications, customer service practices, and municipal government operations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint is required. Experience with law enforcement records management systems, CJIS regulations, MILES/NCIC operations, UCR/NIBRS reporting requirements, grant administration, and municipal budgeting is preferred. Knowledge of records retention requirements, public information laws, criminal justice data security standards, and accreditation processes is desirable. Ability to maintain confidential information, prepare accurate reports and correspondence, organize complex filing systems, perform detailed administrative work, communicate effectively, and establish positive working relationships with coworkers, public officials, outside agencies, and members of the public. Ability to successfully complete a favorable pre-employment background check and drug screening.
Closing Day: Sunday, June 28, 2026, or until filled. For planning purposes, we are tentatively intending to hold interviews for this position between July 6 and July 9.

Police Officer – Berlin Police Department
Full-time with benefits – Experienced or Cadets
The Berlin Police Department is accepting applications for full-time police officers. There will be a physical agility test for cadets at the Berlin Police Department. Upon successful completion of the physical test, the written test would follow immediately on-site.
Cadets: The starting salary for cadets is a Grade 5 Step 15 $26.81/hour ($55,764.80/annually) while in the academy and through successful completion of field training. The salary then increases to a Grade 7 Step 15 $29.56/hour ($61,484.80/annually). The approved FY 2026 Step and Grade Pay Scale is available here.
Experienced/Laterals:
Less than two (2) years of experience – Grade 7 Step 15 $29.56/hour ($61,484.80/annually).
Over two (2) years of experience – Grade 9 Step 13 $31.02/hour ($64,521.60/annually).
10+ years of experience – Grade 11 Step 11 $32.55/hour ($67,704/annually).

- Sick leave (one day a month, no carryover limit).
- Personal days (two annually).
- Vacation days (6 days in year one, 12 days in years two through five, etc.).
- Educational benefits (required paid in full by town/non-required 100% reimbursed with contract).
- Overtime and compensatory leave.
- Take-home car if approved by the Chief of Police.

Full-Time – Sanitation Operator I
Department of Public Works – Sanitation
Starting Hourly Rate: Grade 5 Step 8 – $23.12/hour
Essential Functions: To aid in the operations and duties of the Public Works Department. This position performs manual labor and is responsible for repairing, maintaining, and caring for Town grounds, structures, and equipment. This position collects refuse and recyclable materials from town residents and town buildings. This is a full-time position with a 40-hour workweek and the option of overtime. This position is considered essential and is subject to emergency call-outs, which may include nights, weekends, inclement weather, and holidays.
Education and Experience: A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a good driving record; pre-employment and periodic review of Motor Vehicle Records are required. Must possess the ability to operate the tools that are required to perform the essential job duties of the position. This position will require the ability to operate heavy and small equipment. Must possess the ability to use common sense understanding to carry out uninvolved instructions and resolve problems in standardized situations. Must be able to perform duties safely and efficiently as well as set the standard for others. Must be able to keep an open mind, possess communication skills, and work with citizens, employees, and elected officials courteously and professionally.
