Essential Functions: The Mayor’s Administrative Assistant performs various tasks as directed to aid in the daily operations of the Mayor’s Office. The work environment is fast-paced and would require an individual to be skilled in various computer programs and be willing to learn new competencies as needed. The position may be directed to work with Elected Officials or other departments on an as-needed basis and at the direction of the Mayor. Works a 40-hour workweek, with the possibility of nights (specifically the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month for Mayor and Council Meetings), weekends, and holidays.

Education and Experience: A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field is preferred. Must maintain a valid Driver’s License with a good driving record; pre-employment and periodic review of Motor Vehicle Records are required. Possession of a Maryland certification as a Notary Public should be obtained within six months of hire, at the Town’s expense. Knowledge of office practices, procedures, and equipment. Knowledge of business practices, English, spelling, punctuation, and grammar are required skills. Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite. Types at a minimum speed of 40 words per minute. Must be able to perform basic mathematics and maintain the confidentiality of records and other materials. Upper-level administrative duties or supervision experience is preferred. Must possess human relations skills and the ability to communicate and work well with elected and appointed officials, the public, consultants, vendors, outside agencies, and coworkers courteously and tactfully. Must be able to perform duties safely and efficiently as well as set the standard for others.

Essential Functions: Perform duties required to aid in the proper flow of stormwater to benefit the Town of Berlin and its residents. This position performs work in the repair, maintenance, and care of Town grounds, structures, and equipment. Works a 40-hour workweek basis with the possibility of nights, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Experience: H.S. Diploma or GED. Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and be able to stand and walk 75% of the work period. General labor skills are required. Some experience in water, wastewater, stormwater systems, or construction is preferred, but not necessary. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening with favorable results. Must be able to obtain CPR and first aid training (given annually by the Town). Lastly, though it is not required, preference may be given to those with a Class B CDL.

POLICE OFFICER

The Berlin Police Department is accepting applications for full-time police officers. There will be a physical agility test for cadets at the Berlin Police Department, with the written test to immediately follow upon successful completion of the physical agility. New hire academies take place in January and July each year.

Starting salary for cadets will be $44,137.60 while in the academy and through successful completion of field training. Salary then goes to $50,003.20.

Starting salary for lateral ranges from $50,003.20 – $54,828.80 annually, depending on experience.

  • Be 21 Years Old
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Have a High-School Diploma or approved GED
  • Pass extensive background checks to include: Psychological exams, Physical exams, Drug tests, Criminal history, Credit check, and Driving Record.

Essential Functions: Perform duties required to aid in the operations and duties of the Water Resources Department with the intent of always providing safe and aesthetically pleasing water to all citizens, while doing it safely and efficiently. This position is required to perform emergency and routine maintenance, inspection, installation, and repair of water, stormwater, and sewer systems in Town. Installation of taps and cleanouts when necessary. Assists in managing inventory of parts. Works a 40-hour workweek basis with the possibility of nights, weekends, and holidays.

 Education and Experience: H.S. Diploma or GED. Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and standing and walking 60% of the work period. General labor skills are required. Experience in water, wastewater, stormwater systems, or construction is preferred. Must have at least five (5) years experience in plumbing or related field and at least three (3) years experience in actual water and sewer line maintenance and repair. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening with favorable results. Priority will be given to candidates with either a Distribution and Collection license, 5A Wastewater, or a Class 2 Water license as determined by the Maryland Department of the Environment. The Town will help the candidate obtain these licenses after the required years of experience. CPR and first aid training are required and are given annually by the Town. Lastly, preference is given to those with a Class B CDL.
