    Essential Functions: Do you get excited when helping customers and working with the public while adding value to your community? Do you have a positive outlook and excellent communication skills? If so, we are looking for you! This role serves as an initial point of contact for residential and commercial utility customers while assisting in the daily operational needs of the department. The desired candidate will be knowledgeable of standard office practices, procedures, and equipment; be proficient in writing and basic arithmetic; have experience with the collection of payments; possess the ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Town of Berlin team members, utility customers, and the general public; and be able to follow verbal and written instructions. This position represents the Mayor and Council and is responsible for assisting Berlin’s residential and commercial utility customers whenever possible. This is a full-time position, with a 40-hour workweek. No weekends, evenings, or holidays!

    Education and Experience: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be bondable. At least two years of experience in customer relations, customer account collections, and working with billing systems and daily cash receipt operations. A pre-employment background check will be required. Must possess the ability to perform the essential job duties of the position, use common sense and reasoning to carry out uninvolved instructions, and resolve problems in standardized situations. Must be able to perform duties safely and efficiently as well as set the standard for others. Must be able to keep an open mind, communicate and work with the citizens, employees, and elected officials courteously and professionally.

    The Berlin Police Department is accepting applications for full-time police officers. There will be a physical agility test for cadets at the Berlin Police Department, with the written test to immediately follow upon successful completion of the physical agility.

    Cadets: Starting salary for cadets is $21.70/hour ($45,136) while in the academy and through successful completion of field training. Salary then goes to $25.13/hour ($52,270)

    Experienced/Laterals:

    Less than two (2) years of experience $25.13/hour ($52,270)

    Over two (2) years of experience $28.70/hour ($59,696)

    Over 10 years of experience $31.01/hour ($64,500)

    Essential Functions: Perform duties required to support the operations and duties of the Water Resources Department by providing safe and visually pleasing water to all citizens, while doing it safely and efficiently. Executes emergency and routine maintenance, inspections, installations, and repairs of water, stormwater, and sewer systems. Installation of taps and cleanouts when necessary. Assists in managing inventory of parts. Works a 40-hour workweek with the possibility of nights, weekends, inclement weather, and holidays.

     Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED. Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and standing and walking 60% of the work period. General labor skills are required. Experience in water, wastewater, stormwater systems, or construction is preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of plumbing or related field experience, with at least three (3) years in water and sewer line maintenance and repair. Must successfully pass a criminal background check and drug screening. Candidates with a Distribution and Collection license, 5A Wastewater, or a Class 2 Water license (as recognized by the Maryland Department of the Environment) will receive priority consideration and additional compensation. Preference is also given to candidates with a Class B CDL. The Town will assist in obtaining these licenses after meeting the required years of experience. CPR and first aid training are required and are given biennially by the Town.
