(June 17, 2013) — With current Town Administrator Tony Carson leaving Berlin effective June 30, 2013, the Mayor and Council are pleased to announce that his successor has been found. Following a Skype interview – a first-time use of the technology for such a purpose in Berlin – Laura Allen, currently the city administrator for Colma, California, was offered the position and, following contract negotiations, agreed to accept the Town’s offer of employment.
Ms. Allen has extensive experience in government, having served Colma as the assistant city manager and finance director, in addition to her current position, and has previously held management positions in municipal government in Berkeley, CA and Phoenix, AZ. She also has roots on the Eastern Shore, having lived in Easton and has family in Berlin.
Ms. Allen visited Berlin June 15-17 to familiarize herself with the Town by touring the area and visiting the various departments. Her official start date is September 3, 2013.
In the interim, Deputy Town Administrator Mary Bohlen will fill in, as she has on two previous occasions.
The Mayor and Council’s next priority will be to fill the vacant position of Planning and Zoning Director. Applications have been received in response to the Town’s search, and Ms. Allen will be included in the hiring process, either via Skype or in person.
