(December 5, 2013) – Worcester County will host an open house meeting with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on January 16, 2014 from 6-9 PM at Stephen Decatur Middle School. Residents and property owners are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting to review the preliminary flood insurance rate maps (FIRMS) and ask questions of the FEMA representatives who will be present.
In the meantime, the initial preliminary map for Berlin is available online (see below) and at Berlin Town Hall and the Berlin Planning Office. These maps are the result of studies completed by FEMA to update and revise the existing maps used to determine areas of flood risk. Revised flood insurance rate maps will need to be adopted by Berlin over the next 6-9 months. The process for adopting maps is established by FEMA and the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE).

Please note, the preliminary maps may contain a number of errors/omissions in street names, landmarks, etc. A corrected map has been submitted to FEMA.
Anyone interested in the process is encouraged to review the online information available at the links above and to attend the public outreach meeting scheduled for January 16th.
