Customers asked to reduce energy usage from 2 PM to 6 PM Tuesday, July 12th, Wednesday, July 13th and Thursday July 14th.
(July 11, 2016) — Due to extreme warm weather in our area, the Town of Berlin Electric Department is asking all of its customers to voluntarily conserve or limit energy usage between the hours of 2 PM to 6PM on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, Wednesday, July 13, 2016 and Thursday, July 14, 2016 when our customers will be using the greatest amount of electricity.
Peak times are when Berlin Electric is purchasing wholesale power at the highest prices.
The Tweak Our Peak program helps Berlin Electric and its customers save money. By cutting back on the amount of wholesale power purchased during these peak, high-priced periods, Berlin Electric can reduce its total wholesale power costs. Reductions in wholesale power costs are passed through to the customers in their monthly bills in the Power Cost Adjustment (PCA).
Berlin customers can save money by reducing their energy consumption during these peak periods by delaying the usage of major appliance such as dishwashers, washing machines and clothes dryers. Other important steps customers can taken to lower their electric bills include delaying the use of hot water, closing window shades and adjusting thermostats up three degrees during these peak times. For more energy saving tips, see the Berlin Electric Utility website at http://berlinmd.gov/department/electric/.
