Berlin Electric Receives National Recognition
Reliable Public Power Provider Designation Renewed
(April 2, 2019) — Berlin Electric has received the Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) designation again from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for providing reliable and safe electric service.
The RP3 designation recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Criteria within each category are based on sound business practices and represent a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.
The RP3 designation lasts for three years. The Town received its first RP3 designation in 2016.
In total, 270 of the more than 2,000 public power utilities nation-wide hold the RP3 designation.
“I trust the citizens of the Town of Berlin have known we have a high performing Electric Utility for a good while now,” said Mayor Gee Williams. “It’s great to have independent confirmation that Berlin Electric Department is operating in the top 14 percent of their peers,” he added.
“Receiving an RP3 designation is a great honor. It demonstrates that a utility strives for a high level of service and is constantly looking to improve,” said Aaron Haderle, Manager of Transmission and Distribution Operations at Kissimmee Utility Authority, Florida and chair of the Association’s RP3 Review Panel. “Aside from demonstrating reliability, these designated utilities have shown commitment to system improvement, safety, and developing a strong and sustainable workforce. These designees demonstrate public power’s commitment to constantly improving best practices and raising the bar for other service providers,” he added.
“We’re honored to receive the RP3 designation,” said Tim Lawrence, Director of Berlin Electric. “Our utility employees put in a lot of hard work serving our community. RP3 represents a much appreciated recognition of their efforts.”
This is the fourteenth year that RP3 recognition has been offered. APPA, located in Arlington, VA is the national organization representing more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community and state-owned electric utilities serving 49 million people.
