Flower Street Culvert Project Schedule Finalized
Town of Berlin Announces Road Closure Dates
(November 23, 2016) — The Town of Berlin has finalized the schedule for the Flower St. stormwater culvert project, Mayor Gee Williams announced.
Flower St. will be closed for two to three weeks starting Monday, December 5th. The schedule is dependent on the weather.
The Hudson Branch project will address flooding issues in Berlin as well as improve water quality in the receiving waters that discharge into the coastal bays.
“Historically, we addressed our stormwater issues on a small scale, using the limited resources we have. This past year, using federal and state grants, we’ve been able to take that work to another level,” said Mayor Gee Williams. “We’ve focused on Flower Street along the Hudson Branch first. We just finished adding capacity with a wetland behind the Multi-Purpose Building and now we’re expanding the space available under the roadway,” he added.
“The project is estimated to cost $285,000 and expected to be substantially complete by the end of December,” stated Town Administrator Laura Allen. “We’re using the CodeRed system to let residents and business owners know about the road closure, as well as posting updates on the Town’s website and Facebook pages,” she added.
