Effective following September 28th Mayor & Council Meeting

(May 27, 2020) — At Monday evening’s Mayor and Council Meeting this week, Councilmember At-Large Thom Gulyas announced that he would resign his seat on the Town of Berlin Council following the last regular meeting of September 2020.  Councilmember Gulyas explained that his family would be relocating and residing nearby, but outside of Town limits by the end of 2020.

In an email sent to all Town employees and Elected Officials late yesterday, Gulyas stated, “Knowing full well the cost and impact of holding an election, I’ve decided to let you and the public know now so that my seat can be filled in the upcoming election. It would not be fair to the Town that I have faithfully served for almost six years to add an additional financial burden.”

Mayor Gee Williams said, “Berlin has been very fortunate to benefit from Councilmember Gulyas’ insight, commitment to public service and caring for folks in every neighborhood of our town. I and the entire council are very excited for Thom and his family. I know for certain that no matter where you may rest at night, your heart will always beat for Berlin.”

In response to Councilmember Gulyas’ announcement, Town Attorney David Gaskill confirmed that the At-Large seat he currently occupies would be added to the ballot for the regularly scheduled October 6, 2020 Election and that the successor would fill the remainder of his two-year term.
