For Immediate Release…

Berlin, MD  – The Town of Berlin has been awarded a $500,000 Strategic Demolition Fund Grant through the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) FY2022 State Revitalization Program. Governor Larry Hogan announced the award of more than $63 million in grant funding through several state programs and covering numerous projects throughout the state, including Berlin’s award, which will be used to demolish the Former Tyson Plant building on the Heron Park property on Old Ocean City Boulevard.

“We were very excited to read the Governor’s Press Release and learn of the approval of our grant application for this project,” Mayor Zack Tyndall said. “Town staff worked very hard on the application, and we look forward to receiving the official notification of approval before proceeding.”

A formal Request for Proposals (RFP) is underway for the potential purchase or development of two of the parcels that make up Heron Park, including the parcel where the building is located. There is also a discussion on the agenda of the Monday, December 13, 2021 Mayor and Council Meeting to potentially amend the RFP to include an additional parcel of the park property.
