Town of Berlin Announces Interim Police Leadership and
Opens Application Process for Chief of Police
Berlin, MD – The Town of Berlin announced today that the job posting for the next Chief of Police has been released, formally beginning the search to fill the department’s top leadership position. The Town is actively seeking qualified candidates to advance the department’s focus on community-centered policing, public safety, and operational excellence.
Following Chief Downing’s retirement earlier this month, Lt. Robert Fisher was appointed Interim Chief of Police and will serve in that role until a permanent Chief is selected. Interim Chief Fisher brings extensive operational, instructional, and community-based experience to the position. He is committed to continuing community partnerships and upholding the department’s core mission and values of integrity, respect, and service.
Interim Chief Fisher’s professional experience reflects more than three decades of service, of which 30 years have been with the Berlin Police Department. He serves as a collision reconstructionist, drone operator, and member of the bicycle patrol unit, and previously served on the Town of Berlin SWAT team. He is also a certified firearms instructor and has contributed significantly to the agency’s administrative and operational functions by supporting budget development and management, hiring and promotion processes, and procurement oversight. This combination of field expertise, instructional experience, and administrative leadership positions him well during the ongoing search for the next Chief.
