For Immediate Release…
Water Damage Found in Town Hall Council Chambers
Berlin, MD – On August 3, 2023, water damage and mold were discovered within the northern-facing wall of the Town Hall Council Chambers during routine maintenance. Out of an abundance of caution, work was halted immediately to allow for further testing and evaluation of the area. After it was determined there were no safety and/or environmental risks present following the results of testing, Town staff worked with external contractors to carry out necessary demolition and remediation of the area. As work continues, residents may notice several contractor vehicles parked at Town Hall during and after normal business hours. Town Staff continue to work inside the building, and Town Hall remains open from 8 AM to 4 PM to allow residents to make payments on their utility bills. Due to the location of the water damage, some public meetings, such as the Board of Zoning Appeals (scheduled for August 9th), the Planning Commission (scheduled for August 9th), and the Mayor and Council (scheduled for August 14th) meetings have been rescheduled. Restoration work is scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, August 16th. Please visit berlinmd.gov regarding any changes to meeting dates and times.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Mayor’s Office at 410-641-3858 or [email protected].
